Firstly: whoa! LJ changed so much since I last came! I kinda like the entry editor better now. ;)

*bursts into a banana dance* YAAAAYYY!!! Holidays! (I'm actually almost 2 weeks into my holidays now. Whoops. :P) This semester was a really trying one. There was a stretch where I slept an average of 4 hours nightly for 2 weeks, including weekends! I told myself I'll never do that again. o_o I could barely function. I made so many mistakes in my research work (for my final year project) during that time, couldn't memorise my script for my design project oral presentation (I managed to drill it into my head on the day itself, phew) and just kept crying over the smallest things possible. I would cry while walking home. Or when my mentor (a research assistant under my professor) helps me with some of my work even though she is also buried under her own, I got so touched I started crying. O_O I just feel so overwhelmed all the time and every little thing seemed to be able to tip me over. Well, I can't complain, since I chose to overload. :P

Anyway, I went for lasik straight after my exams, haha! :D :D :D Which makes it tiring for me to work at my computer for long hours, but nothing can beat not having to wear spectacles or contact lenses! ^^ (Even after 14 years of wearing spectacles, they still occasionally make the sides of my head ache and break the skin on my nose bridge.) I sometimes try to "remove my specs" before I go to bed, though. XD The power of habits, hahaha.

I also drew a rather ugly version of Kismette (sigh). I don't know, something just isn't right. :X Perhaps the shadows aren't dark enough? Oh well, I'm not sure how to proceed from here anymore, so I might as well show you guys for some pointers:

Well, what have you guys been up to? Update me please? :D

Aiyeee! XD Omgosh, I remembered it, but I felt shy to ask about it, hehe. But hey, I understand how being busy is like so don't sweat it! It's not like that's a priority, haha! Good luck for your simmy projects! :D (LOL just breathing! XD)

Omgosh, 70th!!! That sounds really grand! (Over here, we would have a great feast where all the relatives would be invited to a nice restaurant or something, haha.) I tried Irish dancing before and it was really fun too, despite my 2 left feet. :P Tell your dad I said happy birthday too (if it's not weird, haha)!

Whoa!! A tumor surgery? O_O That sounds like a really scary thing. I hope all goes well for the both of you! (Come to think of it, how did you get such a long break from work before Christmas? Don't people take breaks that overlap the Christmas period instead? XD)

My family is doing well, thanks! ^^ My boyfriend is serving the army now (it's compulsory for Singaporean guys) and has about 3 weeks left before he sort of "graduates" from it.

Aah, you're too sweet, as usual. ;) And I missed you too! So glad to be back! :D

*Tackles Ning.* I feel you. My semester sucked eggs too (I got a bit more sleep than you did, but yeah,) and I'm so glad you're back. And hey, you're a year ahead of me - you're almost done!

I only managed to get one chapter written for my legacy, spent a lot of time crying and going to the school psychologist - apparently I have anxiety issues. I'm home now, though, and the dog says "Hi." Actually, he says "woof" and somehow decided to let me sleep in today, but that's probably because I closed my door. :)

It's pretty, but I think you're part right about the shadows - it seems kind of flat and I think more shadows and highlights would make it rounder. (I can't tell if Kay's eyes are slightly out of line with each other at that angle - I'm willing to bet it's just the angle, though, mostly this thing looks perfectly fine.)

Yay for having good eyes now! (And for no more exams - I just got home yesterday.)

Also, I think you left for school before I finished my research - I'm still not done writing that paper on my results, but my research advisor totally understands and I'm only taking one course for winter term, which is an applied math (cryptography - not my first choice, but I'm excited about it if only because I love word puzzles,) so I'm supposedly going to be able to have it written by February. Which is very good, because I have my thesis project to start in March - the plan is for me to measure degradation in stuff (like wood blocks, pieces of ceramic, string,) after sealing it in boxes of different types of dirt for about four months. I designed my thesis on purpose so that a fifth grader with a calculator could run the number crunching bit - I have enough on my plate for next year already. D:

I like the entry editor, but the new friend's page annoyed me enough that I switched back to the old one.

Glad you're back, Ning!

*aims for your feet* HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! SUCKED EGGS!! That's the funniest description I've ever heard! XD It's even scarier to be so close to graduating, because I haven't found a job yet. O_O

Hmm, did they reevaluate your "condition" or something? I mean, it sounded more like you don't enjoy being part of those people's social circles, not that you can't be part of them. (LOL, woof back!) It's vacation time for you too, right? :D (which is why you're home?)

Haha, I'm actually thinking of redrawing her expression, to be honest. She looked a little crazy instead of just gasping at something she liked. XD

Winter term? Is that like a special term which lasts between 2 official terms? But anyway, APPLIED MATH O_O CRYPTOGRAPHY O_O WORD PUZZLES O_O *cough* sounds really hardcore. That measuring of degradation sounds like a pretty cool experiment, though I wonder what happens if 4 months was too long and they all finished degrading by then. It's like the graph of degradation over time flats out at the end and you wouldn't be able to tell what the correct gradient is, right? (I'm really curious; do tell me when you get your results! :D) Hahaha, why not try creating an excel sheet with the cells linked by formulas so that you just need to key in your data? ;) A fifth grader is likely to increase human errors in calculations.

Hmm, I actually didn't detect the changes to the friend's page, heh. I didn't like the "collapse" function though (instead of the lj-cut leading to another webpage). I prefer to have the entries under a separate page. :\

It feels so awesome to be talking to you again, Scribbles! ^^

Well, celebrate what you've got, I guess. I'm glad you're amused. :)

Meh, the school psychologist is honestly probably a little overwhelmed by the amount of relevant stuff here, but she thinks some of the non-enjoyment comes from the anxiety and some of the anxiety comes from the non-enjoyment, so basically part of the anxiety comes from the anxiety. 0.o Yup, I'm on my vacation, which meant Christmas shopping yesterday and I'm being press-ganged to help out in my mom's classroom sometime this week. Also means I get to play sims or just fire up my brother's computer and play portal if I feel like slacking off - I'm making Sims christmas gifts for everyone this year, though. I found some cute posters to put on meshes, because I decided that I didn't have enough simply cute stuff for kids and teens' rooms. (Though, to be fair, I know people with mostly adult sims in their stories might like them too.)

Little bit crazy. Yeah, that might be a contributing factor. Still I'll take happy Kismette no matter how crazy she appears. :)

Yeah, it only runs for one month, we and we have one class for three hours a day... a lot of our classes that require traveling, such as the archaeology digs, occur then, but on campus we just use the rest of our time to pelt each other with snowballs. The professors use it to blow off steam too, and some of the younger ones have actually been known to participate in snowball fights or sledding or stuff. :) So I figured that cryptography would be pretty good for my health given that I could spend the rest of the time drinking cocoa and taking my revenge on the fraternity at the top floor of my dorm by sniping their members with snowballs. Because, you know, word puzzles are hardcore like that. :)

Yeah, I'm still working out exactly how to measure the stuff, but I'll be popping it open at month or two month ratios, so I shouldn't loose it entirely.

Yup, pretty much what I'm going to do. I got lucky, considering most of the other Environmental Science majors that are double majoring have to do all this data crunching from outside articles because they're mostly in the field of biology. Plus, I might actually have a job this summer - one of my professors has a contact with the local department of natural resources and they need someone to test stream-water, so I'm going to give it a shot. :)

I know, it's great! How long are you on vacation? I seem to remember your break between terms lasting longer than mine usually does.
Dec. 17th, 2012 04:49 am (UTC)
Whoa, a vicious cycle, she says? o_o I hope she's wrong. Or at least a change of environment is all that you need. :)

(Is your mum a teacher? :O) Well, you're smart enough to answer all the odd questions anyway, haha! Any cute posters!!! 8D I definitely want those, lol!

I can't help but wish for my college life to be like yours. We don't do such fun things on campus! :X I guess it's partly because I don't live on campus, heh. (Singapore is small enough, lol) Snowball fights! X)

WOW, a summer job in the midst of all that? I hope you'll survive than I did, haha!

Oh, the break officially starts from 10th Dec till 13th Jan, but you get to enjoy the holidays sooner if your exams finish early. ;) Isn't it about the same as yours? I thought we're trying to follow the US system more closely in recent years.
Dec. 17th, 2012 04:33 pm (UTC)
Our break usually lasts from December 15 or so (sometimes as late as December 19 - this year we got out early, because the alternative would have been December 21,) until the Tuesday after New Year's. So this year we've got until the Eighth of January, which is about a week and a half longer than we had last year.

I finished the posters last night, actually, so... Yeah, I'll just edit this post with a link once I've posted them.

Yup, my mom teaches fifth grade (ten and eleven year olds.)

We had a dude dressed as pac-man run down the street last spring during finals season. It was quite fun - people in different colored hoodies were chasing him and a lot of people were chasing them just to see what happened, lol. It could be the living on campus stuff, which I usually love, but it could also be that we have a large amount of people on campus who aren't taking very work-intensive degrees, and because of our required classes all of freshman year, our first and second years seem to have a lot of free time. (I remember then... I think I spent one hour per day on my homework, combined, the first three months of freshman year, and spent the rest of it playing ultimate frisbee... not to mention the fact that all of the freshmen were on campus that year for winter term (it's required) so when we got snowed in, we went sledding in laundry baskets.)

Yeah. I mean, the research was pretty good last year, and it's not like I'll have a chance at a job at all otherwise. The Natural Resources stuff is at least better than working at the outlet mall. Anyway, gotta start thinking about jobs and grad school... and oh my god, can I just crawl underground like a mole and live on the internet? Gah. Not looking forward to senior year. Especially if my brother ends up going to my university (he graduates high school this year,) because I will never hear the end of anything, ever.
Dec. 21st, 2012 05:22 am (UTC)
Ooh, seems like you only get roughly 2 weeks, huh. (Our holidays are usually very fixed; we count by the number of weeks instead of deciding on the starting and ending dates separately.)

I can't wait to see your creations! :D

Hahaha! I think I vaguely recall you mentioning that pac-man before. It's still such a cute idea! (LOL sledding in laundry baskets! You guys are crazy! XD)

Whut, you're a top student; you'll definitely be head hunted! (But hey, I think I actually prefer waiting tables than being an engineer, heh. :P) Haha, I know how it's like to have a younger sibling in the same school! How much younger is your brother, though? Is he on some gifted program like you and gets to go University earlier?
Dec. 22nd, 2012 04:45 pm (UTC)
Well, it's about two and a half, really. Our school does the dates thing very oddly compared to some others.

I posted the posters

Yeah, it's by far one of the crazier things that's happened. I'm a pretty good student but unfortunately there's still sort of a disconnect between being good in your major and actually getting a job around here, which is true for the science students as well as the ones who take a more common route, like business or communications. Most of us figure we won't get a decent job unless we go to grad school - according to a lot of professions you're not a proper scientist unless you're a doctor of something or other. :/

Oh yeah, we made our school's community page (someone videotaped us,) and were mildly famous as the six craziest girls on campus for a few weeks. We also learned, you can't overload the baskets, because there are rocks at the bottom of that hill. Still, the worst that happened to us was that there were a couple of jammed elbows when we tried to brake to avoid capsizing.

My brother is three years younger than me, and he's an AP student too. (He actually got to take more AP's than me, but that's only a function of them allowing more in the schedule now that they've changed how our high school did scheduling.) AP students don't get to go to university earlier, they just get to skip some of the basic university courses when they get there. :) Anyhow, he just got accepted to University of Chicago - which is his dream school - this week, and it looks like he could get financial aid of some kind, so maybe I won't have to deal with him being in the same school, lol.

(You know, now that I think of it, I think I might be the less well-behaved sibling. He constantly claims that nothing happens at school and I did spend a lot of my class time in high school messing around... Of course, it could be more of the fact that he's a dude and wouldn't tell me or our parents anything that would make it sound like he ever did anything interesting at school because then he'd have to talk to us, oh no. XD )

Grad school! O_O I told myself I'm done with studying when I graduate, but if I can't find a job... (no, please, no! I don't wanna go grad school!) It's kinda true, though, that it's necessary for scientists to enter grad school. :P

LOLOLOL!!! The 6 craziest girls! XD Well, you guys were lucky none of your baskets broke then, haha!!

WOW, seems like you guys have got good genes. Your parents must have been intelligent people too! :O

(Hahahaha!! I highly doubt that too! Boys are usually so much wilder! :P)
Dec. 26th, 2012 09:55 pm (UTC)
Could just be that my parents know what I got up to and they don't know what my brother gets up to. :)

Yeah. Dad's a programmer and mom teaches elementary school, so I guess my parents might be smarter than the average bear. :)

I don't want to think about grad school yet, which is good, as I can't do that until I've finished thesis (whee! thesis! I got approved to not have to do two of them!)

Yeah, see - this kind of stunt is why you should bring sturdy laundry baskets to college. :)
Dec. 14th, 2012 09:31 pm (UTC)
I already tackled you over on DD, so let you sit down now. :D

I'm so envious of your drawing skills! You would not want to see what my attempt would look like!
College is so hard on everyone I'm reading. :( Glad you got through it all and yahh! for holidays!

Did you have laser treatment? I'm trying to figure out how your eyes got fixed. My friend was telling me all about hers and I kind of wished I wasn't eating at the time...
What have I been up to? Well it hasn't been the greatest time of late with my MIL suddenly passing-Christmas is not going to be the same. But otherwise I guess I'm doing the same old things-schooling my kids, finally getting ds into bush children's for speech and OT. (occupational therapy) I have started walking of a morning in an attempt to lose some flab. (wishful thinking probably) Put up some lots on MTS, just finished a decorating contest over there (Think I got about 6th place?) Building a lot for the current time theme and just started on a new legacy chapter. It's a Christmas one so getting it up for Christmas would be good, although as I said elsewhere I'm not holding my breath.

Yah for being back Ning. :D

Hahaha! Everyone is tackling me, eep! XD

Huh, I think I can pass off as an amateur as best. o_O But YAAAAYYYY!!! Holidays!! *happy dance!* (College wasn't meant to be easy, I guess. :P)

Yup! I lasered my cornea off, muahaha! They basically use laser to create a cornea flap, open the flap, then use laser to zap off the unwanted thickness so that the images can now become focused. (You can see a pictorial description from the website of my clinic: http://www.shinagawa.com.sg/lasik-services/the-lasik-process) It's not scary at all, really! The flap was created in maybe 10 seconds and the lasering was done in about another 10 seconds for each eye! ^^ There was a lot of waiting time, though. It was a really popular clinic. :X

I'm sorry to heat that, Jo. Did you live with your MIL or was she close to your family? I hope your family still gets to enjoy and warmth and joy of the Christmas season while the remember her fondly. :')

Occupational therapy? :O Sounds like it's time to change jobs, heh! I don't know, but I would hate if my occupation ends up getting in the way of my life. (Easier said than done, I know. I haven't found a job yet. :P)

Hey, don't underestimate walking! (If it is brisk enough to increase your heartbeat rate, of course ;)) It's awesome that you're already taking the first step--many people simply complain and do nothing. Build your stamina up slowly and increase your pace bit by bit. ;)

Wow, 6th is a job well done for such a huge community! I suck at navigating MTS2 though; any links for me to see your houses? :P

Yay yay yay! :D
Dec. 16th, 2012 09:30 am (UTC)
Maybe I won't tell you how long that flap will take to heal...

No she lived an hour away, but yes we were close. She was the kind of person who spread love and everybody loved in return. Okay stopping talk on that as I am tearing up. Thank you though.

I think you might be confused on the next part. We got our ds (that means dear son) into see the occupational therapist after waiting about nine months.

Hope I can keep it up in this heat. Not nearly as hot as you are getting I bet. It will be 38C here tomorrow. -_-

Here's the link. ;) The first page has a listing to our makeovers and the scores and judges comments are all there-for anyone to see! haha, that doesn't bother me luckily.

Hope you have a lovely Christmas Ning. :)

Aaaand it might help if I pasted in the link before I hit submit.
http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=487463&c=1&ht=&page=1&pp=25#startcomments And it was eighth all up, but sixth in the last round. Way to inflate my own ego. *slaps self*

Eh... my doctor said my flap is already healing well after the 7th-day check up. :X I am allowed to do light sports like jogging and wash my face (and get water into my eyes, lol).

Oh, Jo. *hugs*

Okay, I did get that part wrong, whoops! :P I thought when there's the word "occupational", it automatically meant there was something wrong with a job! :P (Is he getting better now? :))

38C?!?! We don't even have it that hot here! O_O (While we complain a lot about the humidity, it gives us a thick cloud cover for protection, heh.)

(Hahaha!! That happens to me all the time: I email people without the attachments!) I like Rose's house best. :D The commentary is hilarious and the decorations just feel so put together and homely! (Psst, I secretly wish I can live self-sufficiently too :X)

Thanks, Jo! Hope you and your family have a fabulous Christmas too! ^^
Dec. 17th, 2012 10:40 am (UTC)
Thanks Ning *hugs*

My friend went for some kind of check up the other day, two years after she had the laser treatment and she said the guy causally lifted the flap and she was told it will take 5 years to heal! Said it was kind of freaky to think of her eyes being like flaps all this time and she hadn't known. I think I was o_o when she told me that. So either her treatment was more intensive or that wasn’t what your Dr meant by healing.

He went to the first session which was more to test where his strength and weaknesses are. He won't start regular appointments until next year now. She should be able to help him with his fine motor skills.

Really on the less heat? Not fair! Although I don't think I could stand the humidity, being somewhat inland we get a very dry heat.

Thanks. :) I should have done better on the single guy's house but my love of colour got the better of me. Too much red.
Dec. 21st, 2012 05:41 am (UTC)
*jaw drop* after TWO years?! Omg! I was told I can get back to contact sports after a month! I googled and there were some sites saying it takes 24 months to heal, while other saying they never heal. O_O But I'm thinking since so many people didn't have problems with it, the chance of me dislodging my flap (eew!) should be really low. *crosses fingers*

Hmm... maybe I should have been sent for OT too, since my motor skills are really lacking. XD

Dry heat sounds scorching, actually. Do you guys get sunburn easily? (I tan instead of burn, thankfully.)
Dec. 14th, 2012 11:13 pm (UTC)
Ning! :D You're back! The world has righted itself again. Lol!

I kinda agree with need darker shadows but otherwise it's a cute picture of Kismette. I like the colors in the background as well.

I took your advice and took a physics class (plus I needed another science class anyways): ...I hated that class. It was more math than science and wasn't much fun (though apparently we're going to launch rockets soon. I like me some rockets. ^_^). School's almost out though here in another week. Maybe then I'll get back to writing. Otherwise, I've just been behind the scenes watching, planning.

Glad your back, dearest Ning! :)
Dec. 16th, 2012 08:29 am (UTC)
Hahahaha! *hugs!* You always make me feel so welcomed, Emmie!

Eee, I think I'll redraw it perhaps sometime in future. She looks kinda crazy to me now, lol! But yea, I always associate a bright, cheerful palette with Kismette. ^^

Oh dear. :S Looks like you should have approached someone else for advice instead! (Oops, sorry! :P) Well, I guess math is just the way scientists prefer to express their ideas, haha. It'd be crazy to describe them in words anyway, eh? ;)

But rockets, whow! That's so damn cool omgosh! Are they like real rockets or just a soda bottle with chemicals? :D

Pip pip cheerio! XD
Dec. 19th, 2012 11:20 pm (UTC)
Ok so I waited this long to reply as the day we were supposed to do rockets went from Monday to today only to be told: no rockets. But it became more of a free day than anything it being the last full day of school this semester.

That being said, maybe I can focus on writing right now. Things have been roaming around my head that must be written! :D</p>

Pip pip, cheerio! ;)

Dec. 21st, 2012 06:37 am (UTC)
D: I would have been so bummed! How can they cancel the highlight of the entire class! Your teacher must have said rockets only to make you guys hang on to the class. XD

Hahaha! I hope those homeless ideas have settled down well! XD
